The venerable old Game Boy was released in August of 1989. That makes it approximately 23 years old in a few months. While most of them are still chugging along nicely, there are a few issues that can pop up with it. The first is the failure of a ribbon cable between the display and the board, which puts odd vertical lines in the display. This is easily remedied by remelting the contacts as seen below.
In this tutorial, I also:
- Fix unresponsive controls on the Game Boy
- Clean a Game Boy inside and out
- Replace the scratched screen cover on a Game Boy
- Airbrush and stylize a Game Boy
Replacement protective screen covers can be purchased at Amazon for under $5 each. Here is one particular vendor that sells them: Replacement Screen Lens for the Game Boy Original System
